This Day in History...
November 5, 1605 - Guy Fawkes was arrested after around 30 barrels of gunpowder, camouflaged with coal, were discovered in the cellar under Parliament. The plan had been to blow up James I and Parliament. The 'Gunpowder Plot' is commemorated each year in Britain on this day, "Guy Fawkes' Night."

A while ago now I watched a show where Richard Hammond tried to work out whether the plot to kill James I would have worked had the gunpowder not been discoverd by recreating the conditions.
ReplyDeleteIt was a very interesting and entertaining show, and the results certainly would have been catastrophic!
