This royal throne of kings, this sceptred isle, This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars, This other Eden, demi-paradise, This fortress built by Nature for herself Against infection and the hand of war, This happy breed of men, this little world, This precious stone set in the silver sea, Which serves it in the office of a wall Or as a moat defensive to a house, Against the envy of less happier lands,-- This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England. ~~William Shakespeare, Richard III

This Day in History...

Couldn't find hardly anything for today!!

August 20, 1866 - President Andrew Johnson declares that the Civil War is officially over.

August 20, 1940 - Churchill gives his famous "The Few" speech to the House of Commons.

  1. Dig further, I just heard mention on the radio on the way in to work that today is the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and a famous speech by Churchill.

  2. I did see something about the Battle of Britain but it may have been just a reference to Churchill's speech. I'll look around. The post looks...empty! :)
