This royal throne of kings, this sceptred isle, This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars, This other Eden, demi-paradise, This fortress built by Nature for herself Against infection and the hand of war, This happy breed of men, this little world, This precious stone set in the silver sea, Which serves it in the office of a wall Or as a moat defensive to a house, Against the envy of less happier lands,-- This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England. ~~William Shakespeare, Richard III

This Day in History...

Found a couple of interesting, more recent ones for today.

December 3, 1926 - Agatha Christie disappeared from her Surrey home. She was discovered on the 14th under an assumed name at the Old Swan Hotel, Harrogate. She said she had no idea how she got to Yorkshire.

December 3, 1936 - The Royal Family canceled all engagements as the news broke of Edward VIII's determination to marry American divorcee Wallis Simpson. He would have to abdicate his throne in order to marry her and they lived their lives in relative obscurity in France.

  1. Wow - I need to read more about Agatha Christie - that's crazy!

I just read about Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson in Leslie's Carrols Royal Affairs - very interesting story there!
